Unplugged Weddings 📵🔌

Picture this. You’re walking down the aisle ready to meet the love of your life at the alter. Instead of being greeted by guests and the misty eyes of your loved ones, you’re greeted by a hundred cellphone cameras….

Unplugged weddings are super popular amongst wedding photographers. Many say that they love them, and others could not care less.

Unplugged weddings are weddings where guests are asked to keep their phones put away for your ceremony and maybe part of your wedding reception.

The benefits of this is that your guests are completely focused on your wedding. Did you know that sometimes taking pictures actually hurts our ability to remember events?  The theory is that because we are taking pictures, we are too focused on getting the photo to enjoy the moment. Your family and friends should be caught up in the moment with you. Another benefit is what you see during your wedding. Would you like to see your uncles with his iPad capturing pictures, or his face as he sees you commit to the love of your life? Would you like to see your wedding on Facebook, blurry and unflattering? These are just a few of the reasons why an unplugged wedding is preferred by some.

However, there are some benefits to not having an unplugged wedding. The phones in photographs might be reflective of the times later. It could be cool to look back in 20 years and think about how weird our phones look right now. You could also get around everyone asking for pictures of the wedding for their social feeds later. Of course, if I am your wedding photographer you can just ask for a handful of photos to be made available to share with your family. A third reason is all the different perspectives of your wedding. Your cousin is not going to be in the same position your photographer is in. You might get a different perspective.

No matter what you decide to do, keep in mind a few things. When you hire a professional wedding photographer, you are paying someone who knows how to capture your wedding and tell your story the way you want it to be told. If you don’t want an unplugged wedding, please let your guests know that your wedding photographer’s photos are important to you. Because we take our photos with intention, we remember your big day well, and we want you to as well.
